Unilab Laboratori Industriali s.r.l. was founded in 2000, at the VEGA Scientific and Technological Park in Venice, as a spin-off of the University of Padua.
An independent laboratory with accreditation No. LAT 229, our core business is the provision of technical engineering services, addressed to a wide range of industrial applications that require non-destructive checking and testing, mainly in the field of Industrial Metrology, Metallography and Tomography, in addition to providing cleanliness services to businesses. We also offer specialised training in the field of dimensional metrology (reading and interpretation of mechanical designs, GPS specifications, and use of measuring equipment within a company setting) and on request, we can provide customised on-site training plans as well as an expert and efficient instrument calibration service.

We’re also a national Testing Laboratory, with registered No. LAB1634, accredited according to the UNI CEI EN ISO/IEC 17025 and Accredia regulations for conducting Industrial Cleanliness tests in accordance with ISO standard 16232, Vickers hardness testing according to UNI EN ISO 6507 and micrographic examination according to UNI 3137.

HISTORY

Luglio 2020

expansion of the Cleanliness BU with a new service dedicated to measuring the residual oil on mechanical components.

Maggio 2020

further expansion of the metrology BU with the installation of an ultra-precise Zeiss Prismo 10 CMM, with a working range of up to 2.4 m and a rotary table for measuring shafts, cams, and gears.

Febbraio 2020

expansion of the metrology BU with a new service dedicated to the measurement of large components (up to 160 m in length) using optical laser and contact systems. Our clients can now enjoy the latest measurement technologies (contact, optical, fringe pattern, laser).

Settembre 2019

expansion of the Calibration BU. Client portal for certificates and enlargement of calibration services.

Aprile 2018

a company expansion and reorganisation plan is implemented with the aim of centralising activities at the registered and operational headquarters in Monselice (PD), it thus becomes a single Metrological, Technological and Material Testing laboratory.

Gennaio 2018

development of a new area for failure analysis activities; installation of a FEI ESEM Quanta 200 electron microscope with x-ray microanalysis.

Aprile 2018

UNILAB is restructured into 8 Business Units (BU). Metrology, calibration, tomography, cleanliness, chemistry and corrosion, metallurgy and failure analysis, mechanical testing, and training. Each BU is controlled by a separate management team.

Aprile 2017

Unilab Laboratori Industriali obtains the LAB 1634 Test Laboratory accreditation in accordance with the UNI EN ISO/IEC 17025 standard for Cleanliness testing, according to the ISO 16232:2007 standards.

Febbraio 2016

inception of the "Clean Production" research project – the first of its kind in Italy. The project brought together seven companies from a range of industrial sectors including engineering, biomedical, automotive, hydraulics, and earth moving. Its aim was to study particle Contamination, the primary cause of breakages and malfunctioning of a mechanical component, with the aim of developing innovative strategies for Industrial Cleanliness management within companies, both regarding laboratory methods and for the analysis of production processes

Novembre 2014

development of a new area for measuring the degree of cleanliness of components. The Industrial Cleanliness Laboratory is set up.

Ottobre 2014

development of a new area entirely dedicated to conducting tests on metals (light alloys, steels, cast irons, stainless): mechanical behaviour characteristics (tensile, resilience, and bend tests), hardness tests, chemical analysis, C/S, metallography, corrosion tests on paints and coatings, paint tests, non-destructive testing (NDT) and weld quality inspections.

Ottobre 2014

establishment at the new Technological and Materials Testing Laboratory in Ceregnano (RO), entirely dedicated to the testing of metallic materials (light alloys, steels, cast irons, stainless steels): mechanical behaviour characteristics (tensile, resilience, and bend tests), hardness tests, chemical analysis, metallography, corrosion tests on paints and coatings, paint tests, non-destructive testing (NDT), failure analysis activities and weld quality inspections.

Giugno 2012

launch of the calibration service for measuring instruments (torque sensors, torsiometers, torque wrenches and more).

Marzo 2011

development of the new area dedicated to metallographic examinations (optical microscopy, micro and macro photography).

Febbraio 2011

program to expand services gets under way: installation of a Wenzel ExaCT 200 Industrial Tomography system, for the provision of CT services (internal geometric checks, porosity analysis of plastic components and light alloys, non-destructive analysis of assembled components, functional studies of the internal mechanisms of a product).

Gennaio 2011

Unilab Laboratori Industriali relocates to its new registered and operational headquarters in Monselice (PD) – ZI – Via Umbria 22 – as a Metrological Laboratory, providing dimensional testing and verification and engineering consultancy services.

Ottobre 2010

TMB Spa, operating in the sector of mechanical machining on die-castings mainly for the automotive sector, expresses interest in the idea of a Laboratory providing Outsourced Services. TMB joins Unilab Laboratori Industriali, as a minority shareholder.

Ottobre 2010

the company structure is changed: Roberto Meneghello, a former researcher at the University of Padua, leaves Tecnomeccanica Betto s.p.a., a company operates in the sector of mechanical machining on die-castings mainly for the automotive sector, and joins Unilab Laboratori Industriali, as a minority shareholder.

Aprile 2007

the company achieves UNI CEI EN ISO 17025:2005 accreditation by SIT (Italian Calibration Approval Body) Unilab Laboratori Industriali becomes Calibration Laboratory No. 197. Accredited activities: ring gauges up to 100 mm.

Dicembre 2004

Andrea Zaggia joins the company and takes on the role of Technical Director of the Metrological Laboratory in Monselice (PD).

Luglio 2004

the company achieves UNI EN ISO 9001:2000 Certification for "The provision of dimensional and geometric measurement services, and the provision of control and calibration services for dimensional and geometric measurement equipment".

Gennaio 2001

start of a collaboration with Carl Zeiss SPA for the provision of training services on Zeiss software and metrological equipment. Unilab acquires the status of Business Partner of Carl Zeiss Germany which it maintains for the next four years

Settembre 2000

opening of Unilab services; the company is set up as a laboratory for the geometric testing of mechanical components. Services also include calibration, training and consulting. The company mission is to create an Outsourcing laboratory for businesses.

Giugno 2000

Roberto Guggia and Roberto Meneghello establish Unilab Laboratori Industriali as a spin-off of DAUR – The Department of Engineering of the University of Padua. Launch of an innovation project called “progetto Misura” for the design and construction of an Innovative Metrological Laboratory at the Venice Scientific & Technological Park (VEGA).
